Senior Research Analyst, IDC Retail Insights

Ornella Urso is senior research analyst for IDC Retail Insights in Europe. In her role she offers strategic direction and advice to both IT vendors and end-user clients. ​She leads the Worldwide Customer Experience and Commerce Strategies program, and contributes to the European Retail Sub-Industries Digital Strategies program and to Innovation in Retail research. Her research activity focuses on retail customer experience personalization, retail commerce platforms, sustainability, and European retail DX strategies across segments and countries. ​

Prior to joining IDC, Urso worked at the University of Siena and the University of Leicester as a research analyst. She has more than 7 years' experience in various research fields, developing qualitative and quantitative research methods, primary research expertise, and delivering client workshops.

Urso has been involved as project manager in European research projects commissioned by European agencies such as the European Asylum Support Office (EASO), and developed in collaboration with international teams. She delivered several presentations at international conferences and seminars while contributing to research dissemination.

Urso has a PhD in political and social science from the Scuola Normale Superiore, an MA in global politics and Euro-Mediterranean relations (from the University of Catania), a BA in politics and international relations (also from the University of Catania), and several collaborations with European universities, such as the Technical University of Lisbon and the European University Institute. She is based in the IDC Italy office in Milan.​
